MOO NEEDS YOU!!!!
Here is a brief rundown of Moo!
Found by FIDO volunteers
He was found just north of 38th Street and East of College near the Fair last Thursday evening (8/14/08).
He was very friendly to us and got right in the car and sat on my roommate's lap. He was not going to sit in the back end of the SUV.
We tried to call Animal Care & Control but received no answer. We asked two Sheriffs for help and they offered none. So, we took him back to one of our homes.
He was crated and we went back to the fair.
He was walked by the volunteer that kept him overnight and he was happy to see the other neighborhood dogs but never tried to go after them. He just wanted to meet them.
He knows some simple commands
He has no evident signs of food aggression (a broom handle was placed in the food bowl while he ate and he never reacted)
He did not react when his tail was pulled
He is called Moo because of his spots
He loves to give kisses (even on the face)
His ears perk up when he is listening to you or you walk away. That is his best feauture in my book, besides his personality!

Making you produce last
Fresh fruits and vegetables aren't the only way to meet your daily fruit and veggie requirements, but during the summer, who can't resist the fresh stuff? To avoid the frustration of fresh produce going bad quickly, there are a few strategies you can follow.
Reduce waste by buying only as much as you can eat (or prepare) until your next shopping trip. That may require a trip to the market once a week to pick up fresh produce, but it's more cost effective in the long run.
Go straight home after the market so your food won't be in the heat very long and can be stored properly.
Wash produce with clean hands when you are ready to eat it, not when you bring it home. Unless of course you're chopping it up and preparing it for future meals and snacks.
Refrigerate all cut-up fruit and veggies (fresh OR cooked) within two hours.
Different fruits and vegetables require different temperature and humidity levels for optimal shelf life and food safety. Here are some additional tips to keep all your produce as fresh as possible.
Counter tops: Many fruits do best when they are ripened on the counter, then stored in the refrigerator once ripe. Items in this category include melons, peaches, plums and nectarines, as well as avocados and tomatoes. It also works for more tropical fruits such as bananas, papayas and mangoes. Do not leave fruit in plastic bags on counters as this can slow the ripening process and may lead to rotten spots; paper bags allow better airflow and are fine for most fruits.
Refrigerator: Most other fresh fruits and vegetables are best stored in a clean refrigerator at 40°F or below in plastic bags with holes to allow for air flow. Use crisper drawers for whole produce, being sure to store fruits separately from vegetables. Fruits give off a gas (ethylene) that can shorten the storage life of other items, while vegetables (such as broccoli) give off odors that can affect the taste and quality of fruits.
Cupboards: Some produce items are stored best in a clean, dry, well-ventilated space with no direct light; like a cupboard. Foods that do well in cupboards include potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, and winter squash, as well as garlic and onions.

I want to evolve

I have been on a very adventurous journey of self evolution in the last year. As many of you may have noticed, when I left WW in February I was not at my goal weight. I have wanted to see many of you, but I have been fearful as I am not yet back to goal. I am in fact nearly 20 pounds above my goal. I have been working through all the negative feelings that come with the prior statement. For those of you that I loved and loved me, you would love me no matter what, as I would you. I know a number is simply that and it is us that interjects a good or bad connotation on that number. The one good thing I can say, my weight has been nearly stable for months, not going up past a certain number.
I have wondered, is my body happy here? Is this the weight I can maintain the rest of my life? Is this the number that I can have fun with from time to time and yet still feel good about myself? I even wondered if my thyroid was out of whack.
What I have discovered, I have not been working program to the best of my ability or at all at times. My 4 year LT anniversary is fast approaching and I said last year I wanted to be back at goal on October 7th. I didn’t make it. I may not be there this year, but I intend to be further towards that # than away. I am very strongly considering a different goal weight than the one I picked in 2004. Hindsight sure is 20/20, isn’t it? Is that number too low? It is on the high end of the weight chart, but do I need to lose and maintain 80-85 pounds. What I discovered about my mind at that #, I had no clue how to feel in that body and thus I did some self-sabotage. I now know what it feels like at that number and what it will create in my life, like people flirting with me. I am growing to like people flirting with me, as it is new and can be fun. Of course, I don’t want anyone scary doing it! ; )
And you know what, even 20 pounds above goal, I am actually pretty darn happy with who I am and am getting noticed. All good things!
So, if I am pretty darn happy with me, why do I want to get back to goal? Simply because I can be healthier than I am. I am capable of more and have proven that plenty in my WW journey and in my personal growth this past year. Therapy and fostering dogs have been eye-opening experiences for me. I have grown so much thanks to my wonderful therapist and the work we are capable of together. I also am learning that, “The person who remembers they can always reach out and help others, never runs out of things to do, always has friends, and rarely needs advice.” This was a note from the Universe a few weeks ago. www.tut.com I want to be the best Meg I can be. That means eating healthier and being in the best shape I can be. That means meetings and working out. That means continued mental evolution. That means resisting the huge bowls of ice cream on my annual Labor Day trip to Michigan. I can do it, I know I can!
I can not get any benefits if I do not work for them. I can’t expect results that are pleasing if I do not lay the groundwork. I only get what I put into this and I am tired of what I have been getting lately. So, it is time for a change!

Grocery Shoppin on a budget!

Gas prices aren't the only thing rising, the cost of food is as well. It can be difficult to make healthy choices when you're on a budget. The following tips are some ways to help make your grocery trip a little easier and lighter on your wallet!
Plan ahead by making menus and a list. If you're wandering down each aisle of the store without a plan of action, you will surely overspend on foods that aren't necessary.
Try to plan menus for the upcoming week and make a list of food that is needed for those meals and snacks.

Use coupons as well as your store's reward card for extra savings that are not offered to 'non-members.'
Buy store brands. These brands, also known as 'private labels' are usually identical to the brand name but much cheaper. Most name brand products are stocked at eye level but the products stocked lower or higher on the shelves are just as good.
Buy on sale and in bulk. Look for sales on shelf-stable items and other products you use regularly. Buying in bulk is cheaper, but only if you have the storage space and will be using it before it spoils and has to be thrown out.
Compare unit prices. Use the 'unit price' to compare brands and see which is really cheaper. Most stores show the unit price on the shelf tag, so check that out to get more for your money!
